TITLE:                                     Industrial Hygienist

 

DUTIES:                        Perform advanced Industrial Hygiene duties to include but not limited to occupational assessment of workplace exposures and facility designs, participate in facility work planning and recommend control practices to ensure compliance with applicable DOE orders and regulations (OSHA) related to the control of worker exposure to hazardous agents.  Monitor the conduct of work to ensure specified controls are effective in preventing or limiting worker exposures to hazardous substances or conditions. Investigate issues alleging potential occupational exposures, participate in IH program development and implementation for compliance of applicable DOE orders and  regulations (OSHA), conduct sampling/monitoring for various chemicals/contaminants as needed.

 

REQUIRED

QUALIFICATIONS:         U.S. Citizen

CIH preferred.

 

EDUCATION:                BS Degree in Industrial Hygiene, or an Occupational Health related field, from an accredited program.

 

 

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:   Operational experience in Industrial Hygiene, with experience in hazards analysis, control selection, exposure monitoring and data analysis, including OSHA requirements and NIOSH sampling and analysis methods.  Prior Industrial Hygiene experience at a DOE site is desirable.

 

Conversant in hazards analysis and exposure assessment language/techniques.  Ability to identify and quantify potential chemical exposures, utilizing a variety of resources (electronic, print) to determine applicable limits and implement control schemes that focus on application of the hierarchy of controls logic (hazard elimination, followed by the use of Engineered controls, administrative controls, and finally personal protective equipment (PPE)) to protect the workforce.  Computer skills to support documentation of monitoring/sampling conducted.

               

WORK HOURS:             A 40-hour work week is scheduled.  SRS utilizes various work schedules; including 4/10’s (10 hours/day, 4 days per week), 5/8’s (8 hour/day; five days per week) and, 9/80’s (9 hours/day, five days on week A and 4 days on week B). Schedule to be established based upon the needs of the crews and facility supported.  Workweek excludes WSRC holidays.  Each workday has an unpaid 30-minute lunch.
