Civil Construction Field Engineer

 

Primarily responsible for planning and coordination of various construction field executing activities within the civil discipline.  Position requires development of all technical documentation required to execute construction field installation activities to include installation work instructions, applicable permits, and job hazard analysis.  These activities will include involvement in the procurement, fabrication, installation, modification, maintenance and testing of various systems and components.  This position also involves oversight of all field installation activities including inspections and problem resolution which requires extensive interface and coordination with Design, Engineering, Quality Control, Procurement Engineering, Start up Test Engineering, Radiological Controls, Industrial Safety, and Facility Operations.

 

Design Output Construction Reviews

·         Review design output and vendor documents

·         Field walk down with design engineers

·         Verify design constructability including procedure and code compliance

·         Verify field conditions vs. Design output

·         Verify material availability

·         Submit constructability comments

·         Track comments to resolution

·         Support design review meetings

 

Field Material Take-Off & Procurement Support

·         Perform material take off and develop bill of materials (BOM)

·         Coordinate ordering of material & track the progress/status of material delivery to site

·         Coordinate delivery of material to the field

·         Verification of received material vs. ordered material

 

Work Executing Plan Development

·         Walk downs with craft supervision & support groups

·         Develop installation sequence

·         Generate work instruction

·         Generate inspection and test records or coordinate with quality control

·         Understand layout / survey needs and generate layout / survey requests

·         generate job hazards analysis for field execution of construction scope

·         Support / lead team hazard analysis review meetings

·         Generate or support the generation of job specific permits as required

o   Electrical lockout/tagout order

o   Power services utilization permit

o   Hot work

o   Asbestos disturbance

o   Confined space

o   Radiological

o   Excavation

o   Hazardous waste

 

 

Work Execution Plan Review & Approval

·         Attend/chair execution plan review meetings

·         Develop routing for lists for hazards analysis approval

·         Develop routing list for work plan approval

·         Coordinate and expedite work plan approval

·         Disposition comments to the work execution plan

·         Assemble and issue approved work execution plans

·         Provide status & update of work execution plan

 

Work Execution Field Coverage & Support

·         Lead pre-job briefings with craft workers

·         Perform task ready walk down with craft supervision

·         Verify quantifies of installed commodities

·         Coordinate daily field support

·         Order and expedite delivery of additional materials as required

·         Coordinate material testing as required

·         Coordinate and status shop fabrication in support of field execution

·         Perform field inspections

·         Identify and coordinate resolution of field installation issues

 

Work Execution Plan Closure

·         Generate design completion notices

·         Ensure accuracy of work execution plan status

·         Close all required permits

·         Close work execution plan documentation

 

Education:

·         Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or

·         Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering and 1-5 years or related experience or

·         High school diploma and 5 + years of related experience

·         Candidate must have 2 years of experience in construction work planning

·         Candidate with experience in work planning using computerized work control process systems (i.e. Passport, Asset Suite, Smart Plant Foundation) is preferred

·         Candidate must have the ability to walkdown systems in the field

 

Work Hours:

A 40 hour work week is scheduled.  SRNS utilizes various work schedules; including 5/8s (8 hours/day; five days per week), 4/10s (10 hours/day; four days per week), and 9/80s (9 hours/day, five days on week A and 4 days on week b).  Work week excludes SRNS holidays.  Each work day has a 30 minute lunch.

 

Area Security Access:

A security clearance in not initially required; however, candidate must be capable of obtaining an L or Q clearance if required to perform assigned duties.
